Brim-managed hospital makes 100 "Most Wired" list

most wired logoSpooner Health System in Spooner, Wisconsin, was named as one of the nation's 100 "Most Wired" hospitals in the July issue of Hospitals and Health Networks Magazine (H&HN), which is a publication of the American Hospital Association. The magazine is in its 10th year of the Most Wired study which compiles information from a nation-wide survey. The study leads the field in analyses and benchmarking of healthcare information technology. H&HN surveyed more than 1,300 hospitals to name the 100 "Most Wired" hospitals in the 2008 "Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study."

Spooner Health System was chosen by H&HN because of its transition to computer programs and systems such as electronic medical records. The new technology improves five key areas outlined in the survey: safety and quality, customer service, business processes, workforce, and public health and safety.

"Spooner Health System is honored to receive recognition as one of the 100 "Most Wired" hospitals in the United States," said Mike Schafer, Spooner Health System CEO. "It is a reflection of the commitment that we have taken towards assuring that our patients receive the high quality healthcare they expect."

The health system's commitment to improving its computerization and IT infrastructure was made approximately five years ago. Through a comprehensive strategic planning process that was facilitated by Brim, and involved the board of directors, medical staff and management staff, the hosptial was able to advance its use of information technology.
