BRENTWOOD, Tenn., September 29, 2008 --- Phillip J. Mazzuca has been selected by the Brim Healthcare Board of Directors to serve as the company’s next CEO and President and a member of its Board. Mazzuca, former chief operating officer of MedCath Corporation, will assume the role presently held by Dave Woodland, who is retiring after 21 years with the company, on or before December 21, 2008. Woodland will continue to serve on the board.
“We considered many extraordinary candidates during the search for Brim’s new CEO,” said Randy Smith, Chairman of Brim’s Board. “Phil brings more than 25 years of hospital operations experience, and has earned a reputation as a creative, patient, employee and physician oriented healthcare leader. Equally important, he shares our commitment to expanding Brim’s presence as both a manager, advisor to and operator of community hospitals. Phil is the right person to lead the strategies we have in place at Brim and develop new strategies for the company and with our management teams and boards for our hospitals.”
Prior to joining BRIM, Mazzuca held the position of Chief Operating Officer of MedCath Corporation, since March of 2006. Prior to that, Mazzuca held various hospital and corporate leadership positions including the role of Division President at IASIS Healthcare. He also has served as CEO for hospitals in Alabama, California, Illinois, Virginia, and Florida, during his career. Mazzuca is a graduate of Valparaiso University and holds a master’s degree in Hospital and Healthcare Administration from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
“Joining Brim is a wonderful opportunity, and I’m honored to lead this respected company into a new strategic era,” said Mazzuca. “I’m thrilled to join this team because I’m convinced that through strong partnerships, ambitious goals and a commitment to quality, we can strengthen the healthcare that is delivered in communities across America.”
Since 1971, Brim Healthcare has worked with community hospitals to help them achieve stability, growth and success. Brim currently manages or operates 35 hospitals in 16 states. The privately held company is based in Brentwood, Tenn.
